The biggest chasm in Bible study of any kind is the cultural divide. We are so distant from the culture and language of the Bible that it does not come easily for us. That is a problem.

The educated elites bring with them the indoctrination of their denominational/seminary line. The uneducated simply don't know what they are talking about.

The Bible is an ancient Hebrew book, written from the ancient Hebrew perspective. That is missing from most Bible study conversation.

Jesus' model incorporated authoritative rabbinic teaching. His subject was the Torah. The whole point of his earthly ministry was to teach his disciples how to "fish for men".

I don't think that model needs to change. Entertaining biased or uneducated opinions of the Scripture helps no one. Our goal is to get to the original intent of the text.

When we do that I think we'll all be surprised at what we find.

The Lord be with you ...
